DNS records for OX App Suite email (MX, SPF and DMARC) Print

For email on your domain to work with OX App Suite, your domain needs the right DNS records. If we manage your domain or hosting, we'll set these up for you. This guide is for anyone managing their own DNS, or checking it's correct.

MX records (where your email is delivered)

Remove any old MX records, then add these four. Each one uses host @ (or blank), priority 10 and TTL 3600:

  • mx001.cloudus.xion.oxcs.net
  • mx002.cloudus.xion.oxcs.net
  • mx003.cloudus.xion.oxcs.net
  • mx004.cloudus.xion.oxcs.net

SPF record (stops your email being marked as spam)

Add a TXT record on @ with this value:

v=spf1 include:spf.cloudus.rs.oxcs.net ~all

Important: a domain can only have one SPF record. If you already have one, for example because your website or another service sends email, add the OX part to it instead of creating a second record:

v=spf1 include:spf.cloudus.rs.oxcs.net include:other-service.com ~all

DMARC record (protects your domain from being spoofed)

Add a TXT record with host _dmarc. A sensible starting point is:

v=DMARC1; p=quarantine; rua=mailto:dmarc@yourdomain.co.uk

Replace the address with one where you'd like to receive DMARC reports. If you're unsure, start with p=none, which only monitors and doesn't block anything, and tighten it later.

How long do changes take?

DNS changes usually take effect within an hour, but can take up to 24–48 hours to reach everywhere. During that time some email may still go to your old provider. See How to move your email from another provider to OX App Suite for how to catch those.

Check your records

Free tools such as MXToolbox let you check your MX, SPF and DMARC records are set correctly.
